Isusumbong Kita sa Tatay Ko is worth reliving neither because of its blockbuster success nor its well-loved cast. This film invites the audience to have a peek on a curious moment in the history of Philippine cinema – a moment when the biggest film studio is building the idea of classical films and national cinema while using its own criteria and qualifications.

Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice is reserved for fanatics who have for so long waited for their favorite DC Comics characters. But for viewers unfamiliar with the world of Batman and Superman, watching the film to discover a new realm is not worth it. It does not sustain excitement, it does not elicit interest, and it does not add to the already popular superhero genre. Scratching off nostalgia on its surface, one can see a hollow plot lacking both in action and story.

London Has Fallen begins with snippets of news sound bites on various terrorist- or insurgency-related attacks. One of the last news snippets to be audible is the story of the SAF 44. The following scene takes place in Pakistan, where the son of arms dealer Aamir Barkawi returns home. They attend a wedding, which the United States government then bombs via drone strike.

Hollywood films that dabble in mythology tend to be bad almost all the time. Clash of the Titans, Immortals, and Wrath of the Titans are proof of that. Gods of Egypt had the chance (and the budget, to boot) to be different, to be actually good. Sadly, that chance gets wasted in 127 minutes.

Spectacle is when you watched your first firework display and gets stupefied by its beauty. It was magical. It was unforgettable. It was life-changing. But when told to watch the same fireworks the following day and the days after that, you begin to wane interest and act as if it’s just a normal scenery. Deadpool works in the same premise. It flaunts a well-written screenplay. It showcases a never-before-seen character. It presents a hopeful subversive intention. But the audience must be warned. This movie when done again will lose its magic. So while it is still a spectacle, while it is still a novelty, and while it is still revolutionary, watch all of its glory until its last spark dies out.
