Pride and Prejudice and Zombies puts a dark twist on the beloved classic tale by Jane Austen.  Based on Seth Grahame-Smith’s parody novel of the same name, the romance-action flick retells the highs and lows of the Bennet sisters’ respective love stories as you’ll remember them from Pride and Prejudice.  Also woven into the plot is the looming threat of a zombie apocalypse.

Spectacle is when you watched your first firework display and gets stupefied by its beauty. It was magical. It was unforgettable. It was life-changing. But when told to watch the same fireworks the following day and the days after that, you begin to wane interest and act as if it’s just a normal scenery. Deadpool works in the same premise. It flaunts a well-written screenplay. It showcases a never-before-seen character. It presents a hopeful subversive intention. But the audience must be warned. This movie when done again will lose its magic. So while it is still a spectacle, while it is still a novelty, and while it is still revolutionary, watch all of its glory until its last spark dies out.

Above its great director, promising cast, and refreshing cinematography, Accidental Love prides itself of bringing the healthcare advocacy to the fore. It satirizes US congress and its policies. It has clear and definite intention. But, intention alone cannot salvage a screenplay that is too feeble to stand. Intentions cannot transform flat lines into funny ones. Intentions cannot expound on a plot too shallow for cinema. Here is a film with the potential of being among last year’s best but turned out to be the decade’s one of the worst.
