BL Series at ang Gay Narrative sa Pilipinas

Hindi bago ang kwento ng bakla sa Philippine media. May makulay at kadalasa’y masalimuot na kasaysayan ang representasyon nila sa sine at TV. Sa pagpasok ng panibagong porma ng gay media sa Pilipinas, kailangan suriin kung paano nakatutulong o nakasasama ang mga palabas na ito sa imahe ng bakla. 

Dalawa sa pinakasikat na BL na palabas ngayon taon ay ang Game Boys at Hello Stranger. Sa mga ito, makikita ang bagong porma ng kwento ng bakla – mas positibo, mas kaiga-igaya, mas masaya. Malaking kaibahan ito sa mga kwento ng bakla na lumabas nung kasagsagan ng indie films sa bansa – sa bandang dulo ng 2000s. Sa mga ito, nagdarahop ang bakla. Biktima sya sa mapanakit at bayolenteng lipunan. Kaya hindi maiiwasang tanungin kung ano ang dahilan sa pagbabago ng mga kwentong ito. 

Sa video essay na ito, pag-uusapan natin ang nagbabagong naratibo ng bakla at kung paano naiba ang BL Series na Gameboys at Hello Stranger sa indie gay films na lumabas sa kasagsagan ng indie film movement sa bansa. Pagtutuunan natin ng pansin ang tatlong pelikula mula sa tatlong direktor na naging haligi ng gay indie films sa bansa – Jay ni Francis Pasion, Ang Lihim ni Antonio ni Joselito Altajeros, at Masahista ni Brillante Mendoza.
